Biography
Lucius Elliott joined Sotheby’s in 2015, quickly becoming a principal contributor to the Contemporary Art department, first in London and then in New York. In 2021, he conceived and debuted The Now Evening Auction, the market’s leading sale for art of this century.
The sale has seen numerous records for the artists featured, and Mr. Elliott has been intimately involved in pioneering these new price discoveries by bringing the right works to market at the right time, including works by Jennifer Packer, Adrian Ghenie, Julie Mehretu and Nicole Eisenman. In 2024, Mr. Elliott took charge of all Contemporary marquee sales, overseeing the presentation of the highest value Post-War and Contemporary works to come to market each year.
Mr. Elliott has played a pivotal role in bringing major American collections to market, including those of David Teiger, Anne Marion, Joel and Sherry Mallin, and Sydell Miller, and has also worked closely with the estate of Roy Lichtenstein to bring over 200 works by the artist to auction.
Mr. Elliott graduated with honors from Cornell University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and English Literature.
